Combat Hard Handgun Combatives Program Overview

History

Hello, my name is Steven Mosley and I am the Director of Training for the Combat Hard Training Center. I have trained in the Martial Arts and worked in law enforcement for over 25 years. One of the many discussions that I have had over the past several years is whether we should or should not; blend fighting skills with firearms skills. This subject always brings out the best and worst of the instructors involved in the discussion and as you probably already know, there are always as many different opinions as there are instructors.

I have always believed that the two disciplines, Fighting and Firearms, should be trained and taught together as one. Violent physical confrontations are up close and personal and based on my experiences, if you carry a handgun for self-protection, you will most likely have to physically fight before actually deploying your handgun. So after much discussion and debate, the Handgun Combatives program was born. This document provides an overview of the current Practitioner Level 1 and Level 2 program that I have developed.

The main goal of the “Handgun Combatives” program is to train any novice and or experienced Martial Arts student, armed citizen or law enforcement officer the art of fighting with a “Handgun”. This course is specifically designed to assist students with combative skill development and use of the semi-automatic pistol as a personal defense weapon in a structured, interactive learning environment. Through focused drilling of the basics, students will learn the dynamic concepts of the modern combat handgun, how to fight to get to their firearm and how to “WIN” a deadly force confrontation. It should be noted that there have been many different shooting methodology influences for this program, but one of the most important is the “Point Shooting” training methodologies taught by the late Colonel Rex Applegate.

Please do not misunderstand what I am saying, sighted firearms training is extremely important and I totally believe in it. However, up close and personal, point shooting is effective and must also be studied and mastered.

As you read further in the document, you will see that there are many different levels to this progressive program and students and instructor are free to take their individual training as far as they desire to go.

I need to personally thank, Sifu Alan Baker, Atlanta Martial Arts Center www.atlantamartialartscenter.com for his continuous support and encouragement to get this program started. I am truly honored to call him a friend and teacher. If you have any questions, please contact me at 678-410-9871 or email me at steve@combathard.com.

The Combat Hard Handgun Comba.ves (CHHC) program in my opinion feels a void not only in the gun industry but the mar6al arts industry. Up un6l this program was put together if you wanted to include some sort of gun training you would have to leave the studio or school and go to a gun range to do so. What is so great about Combat Hard Handgun Comba.ves (CHHC) program is that you don’t have to do this, the student can advance through levels of educa6on and gain good skill and knowledge without having to go to a gun range. Another thing is that CHHC program addresses an area that I have not seen addressed in the 30+ years I have been involved in the industry. Most of the 6me you see an instructor teaching defensive tac6cs to a group and then the group will go over to the gun range and learn how to use a handgun separately from the defensive tac6cs. AEer that the student is just leE to themselves to figure out how to put the two together intelligently. The CHHC program not only addresses this gap in training but does it in a very organized and intelligent manner. You actually learn how to take whatever he will do currently as far as defensive tac6cs and intelligently mix it with the use of a handgun at close range. This program has added an en6rely new culture and area of educa6on to my school. Woodstock Georgia. The students love the class and are gaining a tremendous amount of skill and knowledge from it. I highly recommend this program not only to someone in the mar6al arts but all it also suggested to the law enforcement community because quite honestly I don’t see the training at this level in that arena either.
